Llanddwyn Island is home to Santes Dwynwen, the Welsh patron saint of lovers.

Dwynwen, a 4th century princess who lived on Ynys Llanddwyn was unlucky in love, so she became a nun and prayed that true lovers have better luck than she did.

She fell in love with a Prince called Maelon Dafodrill but her father had already arranged for her to marry someone else.

Upset she could not marry her prince, she devoted her life to God and set up a convent on the island of Llanddwyn, off the coast of Anglesey, which can still be seen today.

One of the best ways to take in the stunning scenery of Lake Vyrnwy, near Llanwddyn, is to cycle round it.

The 12 mile ride is very flat, so you won't need to work yourselves too hard.

You can hire a bike just a two minute walk from the Vyrnwy Dam, although they're not available to hire until April.

Visit Llyn Padarn, Snowdonia

Llyn Padarn, one of the biggest natural lakes in Wales is also arguably one of the most beautiful locations in the north.

The lake, designated a site of special scientific interest (SSSI), is home to the Torgoch or Arctic Char, a rare fish that has survived in the lake since the Ice Age.

The water in Llyn Padarn is designated as bathing water by Gwynedd Council, making it perfect for the both of you to jump and go for a swim if you’re feeling brave.

Llyn Padarn and its near neighbour Llyn Peris were named after early Celtic saints who founded early churches in the area.

It forms part of the Padarn Country Park established in 1969 soon after the huge Dinorwic quarry closed down.

What's more romantic than spending the day wine tasting and touring one of North Wales' vineyards with your love?

Tŷ Croes Vineyard on the southern corner of Anglesey covers two and a half acres of vines that have now been turned into delicious Welsh wines.

Pant Du Vineyard and Orchard in Penygroes, Caernarfon, has also been planted on the south facing glacial slopes of the beautiful Nantlle Valley.

Spend some alone time at Llyn Cau, Cadair Idris

If you’re looking for somewhere to spend some time alone, this remote huge glacial lake set beneath 400 meters of high mountain walls is an ideal spot.

The walk from the car park to the crater can take around an hour, but the trek is worthwhile for the deep blue tranquil waters framed by magnificent mountain tops.

Some maintain that Idris was a national hero, killed in battle against the Saxons round about 630 A.D while others insist that he was a giant.

People also link Idris with the legend of King Arthur.

Discover the gardens of Erddig Hall

For some quality time together, spend the day walking around Erddig’s impressive walled garden, hidden away among acres of land in Wrexham.

The gardens has been restored to its 18th-century formal design with trained fruit trees, a national ivy collection, pleached lime trees a beautiful water feature.

In 1973, its last Squire and only remaining heir, Philip Yorke III handed the house and its contents to the National Trust who restored the property to its former glory.

The restoration was the biggest conservation challenge faced at that time.

Tucked away between the golden sands of Borth Beach and the rugged mountains of Snowdonia National Park, guests come from all over - even by helicopter - to visit Ynyshir, which currently holds one Michelin star and 5 AA rosettes.

Go for a paddle at Llyn Gwynant, Beddgelert

The secluded Llyn Gwynant, formed by a glacial, lies on the River Glaslyn, in the Nant Gwynant valley.

It has featured as the backdrop in several Hollywood films including Merlin, Tomb Raider more recently, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Both ends of the lake are shallow which means the waters are safe to go for a romantic paddle together.

You can also swim out across the lake to Elephant Rock, which is great for jumping and making a splash on warmer days.

Explore the medieval town of Criccieth

Perched right on the headland, Criccieth is the ultimate place for a selfie with your sweetheart.

Ride a horse on a wide open beach

If you’re thinking of a beach stroll with a bit of a difference, trek down Fairbourne’s sandy beach, near Barmouth - saddle up for a beach ride on a horse.

Bwlchgwyn Farm take you through their own farm land along the Mawddach estuary and down on to Fairbourne beach.

It is suitable for beginners, although for more experienced horse riders, there is also an option to have a steady canter along the golden sand and water edge.
