Apple bounces back, overtakes Samsung in smartphone sales
Baku, February 3, AZERTAC
Apple is back as the number one seller of smartphones for the first time in five years, beating Samsung which recalled its fire-prone Galaxy Note 7, according to Euronews.
The new, top-of-the-line iPhone 7 Plus was the sales star over the end of year holiday season as the technology giant beat rival Samsung in terms of the number of handsets shipped to stores.
Quarterly revenue totaled $88.3 billion, up 13% on-year to reach an all-time record. Net income reached $20 billion, or $3.89 per share.
“We’re thrilled to report the biggest quarter in Apple’s history, with broad-based growth that included the highest revenue ever from a new iPhone lineup,” CEO Tim Cook said. “iPhone X surpassed our expectations and has been our top-selling iPhone every week since it shipped in November.”
Chief executive Tim Cook said that he expects services revenue to double in the next four years as the installed base of iPhones and iPads continues to grow.
